Yeah, U2 is da bomb!

I suppose yet again it's too early to say, but I think that How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb is going to be a stellar album. I've only listened to it once through, but as it goes often times with U2, it doesn't take more than one listen to know that U2 has, is, and will continue to be the essential rock group to represent a generation (or two). I'll have more on the song by song later, maybe, but for now, my message is: Get this album! It's awesome!
Oh, and by the way, to all those amazon member's reviews I saw, to those who panned the album, I say: It's too bad you don't understand the history of U2, so that you could see how well this album follows suit to their older stuff. And shame for jumping to conclusions, if you don't know U2, you probably won't understand this album very well, but this is a great fulfillment of their promise to return to their roots, and not only to 'Achtung Baby', and 'The Joshua Tree', but to 'War', and 'The Unforgettable Fire' as well, in great form. Anyway, if you ARE a longtime U2 aficionado, you certainly WON'T be disappointed by this album. On the contrary, it will be sweet music to your ears (and some new refreshing sounds as well, of course).
Ok, now I must really seem long winded. So, without wasting anymore of your time, I hope you got out of this what I meant to elude to you (the reader), which is, HTDAAB is a really good album, and you should get it! Have fun!

Which U2 album should I get, out of all their albums? Which one do you think is their best?

Well, this one's pretty good (How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb), but the best one is probably 'The Joshua Tree', from 1986. It's considered one of the best albums of all time pretty much across the board (Rolling Stone Mag, American Music Association, etc.). Great songs, Bono at his best. Supposedly, according to a lot of 'Christian Reviewers', everyone's supposed to avoid anything between that album and 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'. I don't really know about them personally, but I do know that 'The Joshua Tree' is a great album, and is probably unsurpassed by the rest of the U2 albums. It's a good pick.

As I read this , I am actually listening to the Best: 1980-1990. It is a good one to start with, just because it has a lot of well, their best!I was raised on U2 and Bryan Adams, even though my mother hates to admit it now! I mean, The Joshua Tree came out in what, 1986? That was the year I was born. So, my earliest recollection of music is U2. Thanks Mom!!But, as much as I love U2, the Beatles are tied for first with me.

I thought that Bryan Adams sounded familiar, so I went to iTunes and looked him up, and as I was listening, it was like, "I know that song, oh yeah, that one too!". Heaven, Summer of '69, I've heard them many times on the radio. Yeah, he's cool. A bright spot in the '80s.

A bright spot in the eighties! I didn't think anything good could come out of the eighties.John Lennon died in 1980 (dec 8) and everything went downhill from there! NO, I'm just kidding or maybe I'm just too obsessed!?!
U2 is definitely good and most of Bryan Adams is too.

See Joel's earlier post: "The Charting of New Territories, Flashback To 1986 " for another bright spot from the '80.

Ello!!! it is I yet again, the Queen of England, and I must say it was I who "destroyed" b... 'penny lane blair'. I mean, her name is penny lane, doesn't that say something??? But now she is forever enlightened, as John would say during the 'Summer of Love'('67) they spent at the local 'mahareshi hut'!
Besides, it is our job, as the music-loving royalty that we are, to 'show' others what they are really missing! P.L.B. ( that is tooooooo long), you know you like U2!!! Ob-la-di, Oh-blah-da!!!

As long as we're enlightening everyone, follow Andrew's advice, and read the forementioned article, and then buy the Album of that post's subject. It's a great album. Oh yeah, and other artists that I wish to enlighten all of you loyal readers with:
Coldplay: Everyone's heard of them, even if everyone hasn't actually HEARD them. A really good band, check 'em out.
Steven Delopoulos: An eclectic folk singer, really great. If you've ever heard of the band, 'Burlap To Cashmere', he was the lead singer, and now he does solo work. Really good.
Rich Mullins: If you don't already know of this artist, you have a super bunch of catching up to do. You're really missing out. But for those who find him for the first time, that is true enlightenment. An awesome artist. One of the best Christian singer/songwriters of all time. Period.
Bebo Norman: Would succeed Rich Mullins as the premier songwriter in Christian music for profound lyrics, if he wasn't quite so sentimental. And really, if you like that more personal sound (I do), then you will really like the coffeehouse feel of Bebo Norman.
Keith Green: If you call yourself a Christian Music Fan, you've got to know who Keith Green is. He is the icon of Christian music, and kind of in a way created it (first Christian album to go gold (500,000 copies, For Those Who Have Ears To Hear)). His icon status comes partially from the fact that he was killed in a plane accident, but that doesn't sum up his career. Not only was this guy iconic, he practically saved Christian music from becoming based totally on industry and money making, and turned the focus back to God, and His work on earth. Wish he was around for CCM nowadays.
Keane: New British band, not especially keen lyrics (pun intended), but good enough, and the music is outstanding (if you like Coldplay soundalikes, minus the guitars), which is what makes up for the lyrics. A lot of fun music here, but nothin' really deep. Just a good time.
Well, that ought to get you started on some fun stuff, and if you have a suggestion of a good album, post it!
